Traditional weddings in Indore got a Begian twist when an Indian bride from apna Indore, Nitasha Pathrod, tied the knot with her Belgian bridegroom, Kristof Roben, in full desi style. Organized at a city garden, the wedding was the ultimate Indian experience for guests and relatives of the groom. All the desi rituals in a traditional Indian wedding were there, including the dhol, band-baaja and baraat, complete with the not-so-desi dulha on his ghodi.
And he seemed to love the concept. The videshi guests even leant some bhangra moves to songs like Mehandi Laga Ke Rakhna. And who doesn’t love to dress up for weddings?
Friends and family members of the groom were spotted wearing traditional Indian wear like sherwanis and saris and even put on pagdis (turbans). All the rituals were translated for the guests as well. And yes, this included the meaning of the saat-pheras, which fascinated the guests. Lydia, the mother of the groom, said, “I had a great time at my son’s wedding. So many rituals were performed. I was amazed and glad to see that a wedding is almost like a festival for Indians!” Luc Rohart, her brother, added, “I simply loved the outfits and the food. Witnessing an Indian wedding is so much fun. I’m going to share this experience with everyone when I go back home.”
